Fun & Colorful Jars

Good afternoon!  It's a beautiful day here in Michigan:)  The sun is out and the windows are open....doesn't get much better right?!

I had a couple of these empty jars just waiting to be used in a creative way.  I have seen this idea in blog land, however, I can't remember the exact location.

I glued the dinosaurs onto the top of the jars and then spray painted the lids.

Now they can be used to hold all of my son's art supplies!
Fun, right?

Enjoy your day!

Picture Perfect Doily

Good evening, guys.  I'm doing my Thursday blogging a little late today.  I couldn't quite get enough time to sit down and figure out what I was going to say.  Here in Michigan, the weather finally turned out nice to finish off the day.  The beginning was cold and rainy with a little icy stuff coming from the sky, but now the sun is shining.  Way to go Michigan.  Well, anyways here is my little redo.  I had these frames that I had painted a pretty shade of pink and I highlighted the details on the frame with a white paint.  Here are the frames:

I had a bunch of doilies and I had this crocheted runner that I had picked up a long time ago.  I used it all the time until I had dumped something red on it and I couldn't get out the stain.  Here is the runner:
I didn't want to throw away the runner because of all the work there was in it and a lot of the runner was still okay.  So I got out my trusty little stapler and starting stretching the runner on the back of the frame.  I stapled like crazy on the back of the frame.  I didn't want the runner to come loose.  I had 2 frames but not enough of the runner to do a second frame so I found a pretty white doily that was also crocheted.  I did the second frame like I did the first.  Here they are hanging in my living room.
The runner was a definite antique white and the doily was a bright white, but I think they still look really nice together.  They still go together when the wall color still comes thru.

So what do you think?  Until next time, Dianne...................

A Pop of Color

Hello!! I hope all is well with everyone out there today. The babes is napping and I am finally catching up on a few things around the house....it feels awesome. It always is a good feeling to get everything back in order.

Today I am going to show you what I did with a little mail holder. It might seem silly but this baby is going up right away. I can't stand when my mail is all disheveled and out of place. This will be a great way to keep it all together, organized, and out of my way. I couldn't leave it the way it was though...it just looked to out dated. So I gave it a couple coats of blue spray paint and then cut some letters out of music paper on my silhouette machine, which I am still somewhat trying to figure out. I then modge podged it on to the bottom to give it a little bit more detail. Hopefully it will serve the purpose I need...if nothing else it will be a cute addition to the walls.

If you are reading this thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day!!

Chicken Wire Frame

Hello!  How are you?  I have a fun little project to share with you tonight.  I found this vintage frame at a local garage sale awhile back.  I'm sorry that I did not take a before picture of the frame.

I decided to paint the frame white and then antique it with gray paint.  I think white/ gray is one of my most fave color combinations.  After the paint dried, I attached some chicken wire to the back of it and added some cute little paper clips to the  front of it.  I then created a banner made out of music paper and then attached that to the front of it as well.  Here she is on my living room wall....

Enjoy your Tuesday evening!

Updated Thrift Frames

Good evening!  It's been a long day and I'm just now getting to blogging.  I hope everything is going well in your world.  Today was an absolutely beautiful day and my son and I spent a few hours outside enjoying the warm weather.  We had to make a trip to the doctor's office today to reinforce his cast.  It was getting quite soft around the fingers and thumb.  We still have two weeks to go...so they thought it needed to be fixed.  I think the wear and tear is due to all the golfing he has been doing.  He loves to golf these days and especially go to the golf course with his Dad.

I wanted to show you a quick little update that I recently made to a few thrift store pictures.  Here they are before....

I decided to give the frames a coat of yellow paint and then distressed them with a bit of black.  Here they are now after....

The prints just pop a bit more now that the frames are updated.

I hope you have a great evening!

Quite the Cutie

Good morning.  Here is Michigan we had one half of a nice day but the other half was rain and it's raining again.  Boy we have had a lot of rain and hardly any sunny days.  It's a good thing I have a lot of projects to do and enjoy doing them.  Well, I forgot to take a before picture but this table is just a cutie.  I love the oval shape and the top will flip down if you need the space.

I painted the table with a mint green paint.  It turned out to be a pretty color and just right for this little table.  I streaked the top and antiqued all the grooves with white paint.  I think it added a little more detail to the table.
After I painted the white on the table I decided to paint free-hand a design  on the top.  I sometimes like a little scroll y design and it adds a little bit more design to the table.
Here is a little bit closer shoot of the streaking and the design.
And here is my little cutie.  What do you think?  Better?   Until next time, Dianne............................

Complete Remake

Good Day everyone in blog land.  It's Thursday and its kinda of warm, maybe a little bit too warm too fast, but it's better than snow. Well anyways, here is my blog about my little cabinet.  My husband actually found this orange cabinet in someone's garage and it really needed some TLC, but I really liked the shape of this cabinet.  When we moved it from the garage to our basement to work on it, it really looked sad.  It was crooked and didn't sit right, so my husband started taking it apart and apart it really went.  There was nothing left to not even the frame.  He saved the top and the door with the hardware and the front of the cabinet but the rest went.  So here is the before picture before it finally was gone:

He started rebuilding it and used new old wood for the sides and the back of the cabinet.  He made the front of the cabinet with the old wood and the old door.  The 2 shelves in the inside was also new old wood.
After the cabinet was remade I wanted it to look a little fancy but shabby.  We slapped a coat of kilz on the outside and inside.  I had a few pieces of trim that I wanted to fill in the front of the door with.  We glued and nail the extra pieces on and trimmed around the center part of the door.  The cabinet was painted a white.  I than painted a coca brown paint on and in all the grooves of the trim and wiped off the excess.  I than painted paint in all the crevices of the cabinet and all the holes in the wood.
I left the inside of the cabinet the white.  We put the original hardware back on but it had quite a bit of orange paint on it.  I chipped off most of the orange paint and than rubbed white and some of the brown paint on the hardware.  I also took a damp rag and dipped that into the paint and gently rubbed the cabinet all over with the brown paint.  Some of the white was untouched but I liked the streaky look.

We put some rollers on the bottom of the cabinet to make it easier to move around.

This is the sides of the cabinet.  They look old and worn and shabby.  I love the small nail holes and the rough wood.  We finished off the cabinet with a coat of poly acrylic to make it easy to clean and to preserve the finish.
Here is the cabinet all done.  It turned out to be a cute little storage piece.  It could fit anywhere you want it to go.
So what do you think?  Until next time, Dianne....................

Re-purposed Headboard

I don't know if I dare say this but I think that we are beginning to have a little bit of spring weather around here. It is absolutely gorgeous today!! The sun is shining and it's probably around 60 degrees. I could take this type of weather all year round....although the really hot weather is nice and so are the nice fall days. I guess I am glad I live in Michigan where we get to experience it all.

Anyway enough rambling on about the weather. I found this old headboard at a flea market last fall for a few bucks. I think everyone was wondering what I was going to do with an old headboard. I guess I was wondering too...but I just knew it could be re-purposed somehow. I started by having my husband cut the legs off of it...I knew that whatever I was going to create those didn't need to be on there. Did they get thrown away you ask? Of course not they are still in my little stash of treasures to be used in another project of mine somewhere in the near future. :) Any how, after the legs were cut off I painted it using my own homemade chalk paint for the first time! I loved how it turned out by the way...the paint was definitely a different consistency but I loved painting with it and probably will do more projects with it in the future.

After painting it one color I was so happy with how the color combination of aqua and red turned out on a different project that I did on this blog that I decided to go with the same theme. I antiqued and distressed it in red and then stenciled the word welcome. As a finishing touch to make this headboard useful in the home I added four hooks, that also came from the flea market, to the bottom. I would say that this most likely won't be used as a headboard anymore. Now I just have to clear some walls in my entry way to hang it. Have a great day!!! ~Jessica

I LoVe cHaLkBoArDs!!

Good morning!  Looks like we will have a bit of spring weather today....as it is supposed to be in the sixties.  Now if the rain will just hold off:)  We actually had snowflakes here in Michigan both Saturday and Sunday.  I am anxiously awaiting for spring weather....the flowers, green grass, leaves on the tree, warm park days with friends, windows open....and the list goes on and on.  On the flip side this weather has made it easier for my son with his cast.  It's easier to keep him off his bike and scooter when it's rainy and cold.  We have three more weeks until he gets it off.....it will be nice to resume all activities.  Although, he has been a trooper and has not really complained about it.  It hasn't slowed him down a bit....he still has all his energy plus some:)

I found this picture last year at a garage sale and fell in love with the frame.  It looks heavy but it is actually made out of plastic.  The portrait had water damage on it...so what better way to upcycle it than make it into a chalkboard.  I really do LOVE chalkboards......So I left the frame as is and gave the portrait a few coats of chalkboard paint.

Much better....right?

I hope you have a great week and the sun shines for you:)

Antiqued and Distressed

Good morning!!! It's Friday and it doesn't really feel like it. Usually I am counting down the days till the weekend but since we got our week started on Wednesday (that's the day we got back from our little adventure) instead of Monday it seems as this week as flown by!! That aside I am still happy that the weekend is here.

I found this little end table at an estate sale a few weeks ago. It had a leather top and I was curious if I could paint over it and have it look alright. I decided to take a chance and try it out and it was successful!! For this piece I decided to paint it a more neutral, transitional color that would fit almost anywhere in your home. I feel like most of our pieces that we do have some sort of flare to them but this piece I felt would look best in a more traditional color. When I put a coat of primer, and then a couple of paint I decided to antique it in white. I just think it makes all the detail pop, especially the pretty engraving around the top edges. As I was painting the top coats of paint I decided to wipe it down in a few places to give it more of a distressed look. It worked out great to wipe it off with a wet rag before it completely dried. I wiped it all the way down to the original piece and it made the dark color of the wood come through. I think it would be a piece that would fit well in most settings.

I hope you have a great weekend full of fun adventures whatever those may be!!
